Farm Accountancy Data Network - FADN

The Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) is system based on production, economic and financial data collection  from representative sample of agricultural holding classified into groups according to size, type of production and region. Data collection is performed by employees of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from a selected sample of agricultural holdings. The collected data are processed and used for creating the Croatian and European Union agricultural policy.

EU FADN

The Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) is an European system based on the annual collection of production, economic and financial data from a sample of agricultural holdings classified according to the criteria of economic size of the holding, type (type) of agricultural production and regional affiliation.

FADN research is mandatory for all Member States. The collected data are sent by the Member States to the European Commission to the Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development and analyzed. FADN data is necessary and irreplaceable tool used for creating Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union.

Standard output

The standard output of an agricultural product (crop or livestock) is the average monetary value of the he agricultural output at farm-gate price in Euro (or Kuna) per hectare or per head of livestock. The main agicultural product is usually one with highest value, and the others are secondary. The SO excludes direct payments, value added tax and other taxes. The price at the door of the farm is the price of the product without transport and marketing costs. If in a certain area (region) the product cannot be sold without packaging, then the price on the holding must include the price of packaging. In plant production, SO refers to one hectare, and in livestock production it refers to the head of cattle, 100 poultry beaks or a bee community. It is calculated separately for each statistical region.

SO values are calculated for a five-year period in such a way that they are calculated separately for each year. Coefficients are currently applied for the reference period 2011 to 2015 (SO2013).

The SO value is expressed in euros or in the national currency if the Member States doesn’t participating in economic and monetary union. The SO values in such Member States are converted into EUR using the middle exchange rates for the reference period published by the European Commission (Eurostat).

The competent authorities or institutions of the Member State are responsible for collecting the basic data needed for calculating the SO. The calculation of the SO is based on a well-established methodology for a reference period of five years. The calculated SO values are verified by the competent authorities of the Member State and submitted to the European Commission (Eurostat) for adoption. In the Republic of Croatia, the competent body is the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The unofficial SO value can be calculated independently using the so-called EVPG calculator available at the link.

For the official calculation, it is necessary to contact the Directorate for Professional Support to Agricultural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

If you want to participate in the research, you need to send request to Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries advisors in your county. They will contact you with a request for participation if you are a commercial economy holding which fits our selection plan.

After the survey, you will receive a report that gives you the opportunity to compare your holding with other holdings of the same group with regard to size, type of production and region.

Also, based on this report, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries advisors are able to offer you more detailed advisory services on the possibilities of improving your production.

Nothing, since participation is entirely voluntary. If you are selected in the sample and do not want to participate, you are free to decline. The only thing that can happen is that due to the lack of information about your farm, the services of advisors are not thorough enough.

Every employee of the Ministry of Agriculture authorized to collect data in this project signs a statement on data secrecy, which obliges him to handle the collected data carefully and ensure their complete confidentiality. Only aggregate survey results are published, while individual is obtained only by your farm.
